It’s International Women’s Day this March 8, and we’re celebrating it the whole month long here at Beauty Beat. (TBH, we think women should be honored all year round!) That said, we’re inviting you to join the revelries by heeding our simple request: Even just for a few days this month, we implore you to prioritize yourself and take the time to tend to your own personal needs and wants—whether they’re physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual in nature.
You know what they say: You can’t pour from an empty cup, and the only way we can continue to be our awesome selves for others is if we take care of ourselves first. That said, here’s a list of ways you can pamper yourself… starting right now!
Instead of splurging on luxe spa services, why not recreate the experience at home? Here, some quick and easy tips:
STEP 1. Set the mood. Bring out your scented candles and play some ambient, classical or soulful music from Spotify. Don’t forget to lock the doors, too; you want undisturbed "me-time."
STEP 2. Soak in a long bath or shower. Used to five-minute baths? Treat yourself to unlimited bathroom time and really take the time to scrub and wash from head to toe. Work up a good lather with a moisturizing soap, like the Deoproce Snail Recovery Soap, P160, which also works to heal and repair dry skin.
STEP 3. Oil it up. After your bath, seal in the moisture by massaging an all-over body oil while skin is still damp. You can apply on your face and hair, too! Try: Revox Argan Oil 100% Natural, P229.
STEP 4. Have a cup of tea. Finish off the experience with a cup of hot ginger or lavender tea—all while you lounge in your soft, fluffy robe.
When was the last time you deep-conditioned your tresses? While your daily conditioner can provide a quick fix, a once-a-week hair mask is much more effective in repairing dry and damaged hair, since it’s applied on locks for a longer amount of time for maximum benefits. Pencil in some hair pampering time by donning on a hair mask after your shower and leave on for 10 to 20 minutes before rinsing off.
It might seem counterintuitive to organize when all you want to is do de-stress, but hear us out: An orderly space gives off a sense of calm, helping you feel relaxed instead of overwhelmed. Plus, decluttering can be therapeutic, too! (Just ask Marie Kondo!) To get you inspired, invest in pretty organizing tools, like this portable train case for all your beauty loot.
Frequent trips to the nail salon can get pricey, but we all know how well-groomed nails can easily make us look all put-together. To save on the moolah, invest in easy-to-use tools and products that help you keep your nails in tip-top shape. It’s also a good idea to give your hands and feet a good soak every once in a while.
Try this DIY soak recipe, which helps detox and moisturize your nails and skin: Steep three bags of green tea in a basin of hot water for five minutes, then remove. Add the juice of half a lemon and three tablespoons of raw honey. Soak your feet in the solution for 20 to 25 minutes, then pat dry.
Tip: Don’t forget to remove your nail polish first before going for the soak!
Going on a social media detox may sound like punishment for some, but it's actually a good way to reconnect with yourself, minus all the noise and distractions from Facebook, Instagram, and all that. So go ahead and book that trip or staycation, and make sure to focus on you during your "break"—and not on what you have to post on social media! Just don't forget to pack your sun protectors and your travel-friendly beauty loot.
Why wait for someone to give you a gift when you can spoil yourself with your own hard-earned moolah? (Hats off to all you hustlers out there!)
