Start the New Year with a skin rescue plan!
By the Beauty Beat Team
If there’s one thing we love about welcoming a new year, it’s that ~blank slate~ vibe that comes with it—like we’ve been given another chance to start fresh! Unfortunately, there’s usually one thing that hardly ever feels fresh come January 1st: our skin. All the holiday rush, drinking, and late-night partying can take a serious toll on your complexion, leaving it worse for wear or suffering from breakouts, dryness, and dullness. Sounds familiar?
As we begin the year, make it one of your major to-do’s to rescue your skin—with the help of these tips!
Give skin a detox.
Post-holiday skin needs major cleaning—that is, to slough off all the dirt and debris that accumulated during the busy season. Aside from washing with your go-to facial cleanser twice a day, make sure to make time for a thorough exfoliating sesh with a gentle scrub or a peel-off mask, which works to clarify skin and decongest pores.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Take advantage of your newly exfoliated skin by not forgetting to slather on your moisturizer in the a.m. and in the p.m., especially now when skin tends to be extra dry and fatigued. A lightweight formula is great for daytime, especially given our humid weather. At night, you can opt for a richer cream with anti-aging properties or slap on a sleeping mask for extra overnight hydration.
Pamper your eyes.
If you haven’t started using eye cream, now’s a good time to add one to your routine. Aside from keeping fine lines at bay, eye creams can help prevent discoloration and sagging by keeping the delicate skin around the eye area hydrated and nourished.
Indulge in sheet masks.
No time to hit the spa? Go for the next best thing: A relaxing masking session at home once or twice a week—while you binge-watch your favorite shows on Netflix. Look for soothing ingredients such as aloe, tea tree, and chamomile, which are great for tired skin. Bonus tip: After removing your mask, spread the remaining essence up to your neck, where skin is often neglected.
Make SPF a must.
Keep your skin protected with a daily sun shield with at least SPF 30. For an added glow, you can try mixing a dollop of your liquid highlighter or illuminator into your sunscreen. This trick can help minimize skin’s dullness, letting you flaunt a natural-looking glow even without makeup.
